Samsung Battery AI for longevity

Samsung rumoured to Bring Battery AI to improve Galaxy S25's longevity by 10% with same Performance Level

Samsung has been announcing the AI buzzword a lot since January, and it apparently has no intention of stopping. Quite the contrary, in fact, it looks like the company is planning on spreading AI to as many parts as possible, including the batteries in its next series of flagships. The Galaxy S24 line up was introduced with Samsung’s first AI-powered software suite called Galaxy AI. Given that the new models accounted for 53 % of the Korean giant’s Q1 2024 operating profit, many would conclude that these features would be one reason for their popularity. Based on a rumour, the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra will stick with the same 5,000mAh battery as previous-generation models. However, Samsung intends to raise that backup by up to 10 % with something called ‘Battery AI.’

According to a new report, the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra will ship with "Battery AI". This will magically extend the longevity of their batteries by up to 10%, somehow. Rumour claims that ‘Battery AI’ could eliminate the non-essential tasks running on the Galaxy S25 series to increase the total backup. As the name suggest, Battery AI could be an intelligent feature baked into the next version of Galaxy AI which increases the overall runtime without affecting the smartphone’s performance. An unnamed source report leaked about this feature, and users can experience between 5-10% increase in the total runtime. Battery-boosting software has existed for years now, with a multitude of programs available for both smartphones and laptops.

Chinese competitors have generally extended the longevity of their respective Galaxy S competitors this year by simply fitting a ~10% larger battery, but that's too simple for Samsung (and means it can't AI-ify yet another part of the phone). So in lieu of an actual battery capacity increase, Samsung will be giving us AI, to compensate. Unfortunately, these tend to crush performance by down clocking the CPU and GPU, whereas, in other cases, the software does not achieve anything at all. In some scenarios, the 5G modem’s maximum throughput is also limited, nullifying the entire point of running these programs on your devices. While in-depth  knowledge on how Battery AI will work, it is assumed that the feature will ‘eliminate’ unnecessary background tasks that use up system resources to deliver a longer backup. Whether or not it does is beside the point - why not fit a 5,500 mAh cell in the S25 Ultra, for example, and at the same time employ this magical Battery AI on top of that? It's a question that probably won't get an answer, but we had to wait and see.

We believe that the solid integration of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s or Exynos 2500’s NPU with Battery AI will be paramount in pushing that battery life to the next level. Interestingly, the source does not mention anywhere that Battery AI will arrive for the Galaxy S25 series. And with Galaxy AI a major part of the Korean giant’s marketing push, this addition will likely arrive in the next version. Where other applications require users to pick and choose which background processes to remove to save battery life, Battery AI could do that for you. This rumour goes on to mention that Battery AI will eliminate non-essential tasks to increase the overall runtime without affecting the phone's performance. So it won't be down clocking the CPU and GPU, presumably, which is a good news. Unfortunately, intricate details are scarce at this time, but we will be sure to add more information when we get it.
