ANDROID AUTO 11.3: BETA VERSION

Android Auto 11.3 Spotted Online Beta Version Available

Hot on the heels of the official rollout of Android Auto 11.2, Google has released a beta version of the next iteration: Android Auto 11.3. This early access update offers a glimpse into potential future enhancements but currently presents few noticeable changes beyond a revamped Assistant interface. Android Auto 11.3 is the next in the queue to receive the go-ahead for production devices, but for now, Google wants to thoroughly test the release before the rollout starts. As with previous beta releases, users enrolled in the official Android Auto beta program will receive the update automatically via Google Play, but anyone can give it a try by side loading the APK on their devices.

The process is fast and straightforward, requesting a manual download of the APK installer. Once the file is stored on the Android device, users must initiate the installer by tapping the installer. The rest of the process comes down to steps detailed on the screen via a wizard, typically finalizing in a few seconds. Most people considering installing a beta build on their devices are particularly interested in the changelog. However, Google sticks with an approach that doesn't make sense for users, as the company doesn't share updated changelogs unless the new updates include notable improvements. As a result, it's safe to assume Android Auto 11.3 is mainly focused on improvements.

New features

While not explicitly outlined by Google, the primary alteration lies in the design of the Assistant interface. In this beta, the Assistant utilizes a vertical button panel specifically optimized for widescreen displays. This design shift addresses a potential drawback: obstructing the map with vertically displayed text. Instead, the navigation bar transforms into the Assistant animation, while commands and responses appear in a smaller, less intrusive bubble overlay. Other Assistant interactions, such as contact selection for calls or messages, also benefit from improved integration, transitioning from pop-up windows to streamlined side columns within the full-screen map view. The beta build appears to retain the previous notification regarding phone overheating, even if such conditions aren’t readily apparent. While not officially confirmed, the update likely includes internal changes and bug fixes, though specific details remain undisclosed. Google has already promised notable updates, including introducing artificial intelligence for handling communications. Some users have already received an early version of the AI integration, being able to respond to get a summary of long messages or busy group conversations read by Google Assistant. Google Assistant can also display relevant answers, including sharing the ETA via Google Maps when a contact asks about the arrival time at a destination.

If you’re part of the beta program, the update will download automatically. Otherwise, you can download the APK file from trusted sources like APKMirror and install it manually. Remember, beta software inherently carries the risk of instability and potential bugs. So proceed with caution if using it as your primary driver. Android Auto will also get new capabilities for the essential apps, including Google Maps. The navigation application will show the parking location on the map. The feature has been available on mobile devices for many years, but it's now arriving on Android Auto to make it easier to find a destination. If the parking location is different from the navigation destination, users can mark it on the map and use Google Maps for step-by-step walking directions.

Conclusion

While Android Auto 11.3 beta represents a step forward in interface refinement, particularly for widescreen displays, its current iteration lacks substantial feature additions. However, it serves as a valuable testing ground for future enhancements and bug fixes. Paving the way for a potentially more polished and user-friendly experience in the official release. Android Auto 11.3 continues the rollout of a new Google Assistant animation spotted in previous updates, though the change isn't yet live for all users. If you're interested in installing this beta build, remember that Android Auto 11.3 is currently in the pre-release stage, and using it as a daily driver isn't recommended.
