WhatsApp to introduce Instagram-like reshare status feature

WhatsApp to Introduce a reshare status update feature like Instagram

WhatsApp recently updated Meta AI with some new features. Now WhatsApp is making it easy to reshare the status of their friends, family, and colleagues. WhatsApp is developing a new feature which will allow users to reshare status updates where they have been mentioned, similar to Instagram’s feature. This feature, currently under development, will simplify the process of sharing status updates where users have been tagged. The “Reshare Status Updates” feature will enable users to reshare status updates where they have been mentioned, making it easier to share content with their contacts.

A new feature is under testing which makes it easy for users to reshare status updates on their profile with a dedicated button. Spotted on the latest WhatsApp beta version 2.24.16.4 for Android, the new feature will be useful for those who are keen on resharing status updates on their profile. A similar feature has been available on Meta’s photo and video-sharing platform Instagram for years. The upcoming feature adds a quick shortcut button to reshare status updates and allows users to reshare as is or by further customizing them using emojis or by resizing the post itself. For now, it’s unclear if WhatsApp will notify users when their status is reshared.

The reshare status updates feature is expected to enhance the user experience by simplifying content sharing. Currently, if someone wants to share a status update in which they have been mentioned, they have to go through a cumbersome process. Right now, if a user wants to reshare a WhatsApp status update, they have to take a screenshot and then re-upload it to WhatsApp, which is not possible if it’s a video or a GIF-format image. With the upcoming feature, WhatsApp is reducing this hassle by offering a direct option to share the status update of their contact with ease.

Additionally, WhatsApp is testing several new features for both Android and iOS users, including the ability to choose between the smaller Meta AI model (70B) and the larger model (405B) for iPhone users. In a recent update, WhatsApp also introduced several new generative AI experiences, powered by the company’s latest large language model Llama 3.1. These features include the ability to edit images by removing subjects or replacing backgrounds and the ability to generate personal avatars. The latest update also allows WhatsApp to generate images much faster than before and provides previews when an image is being generated.

Conclusion

This new feature will streamline the process, allowing for quick and easy resharing directly through the status update interface. A new button will be added to the status update interface to facilitate easy resharing, saving users the hassle of taking screenshots or requesting the original sharer to send the media privately. The feature is still in development and not available to beta testers yet. No specific timeline has been provided for its official release, but it is expected to roll out in the near future.
