Google Photos adding Documents view to the web

Google introduces ‘Documents’ view to Google Photos on web

After rolling out some Material 3 tweaks, Google Photos on the web is adding the “Documents” section that’s already available on Android and iOS. Google Photos on web has got the ‘Documents’ section where your uploaded photos will be sorted and put under different categories. Google Photos on web has got the ‘Documents’ section as well. To check out the new Documents view, head over to Library in Google Photos on web (you can find the ‘Library’ tab on the left side of the Google Photos window) where you'll see it added amidst options like Favourites, Albums, Utilities, Archive, Locked Folder and Trash. If you are not able to see the Documents tab right now, wait for the update to arrive.

Introduced to the mobile app in November, you’ll now find “Documents” in the Library alongside others. When you click/tap on Documents, sub-categories of three top collections (for example, Screenshots, Social, Books & magazines etc.) will show. Like the carousel on mobile, this can include “automatic albums”, which offer “Archive after 30 days”, for Screenshots, Books & magazines, Event information, Identity, Notes, Payment methods, Receipts, Recipes & menus, and Social. You can also search for “Documents” in the Google Photos search bar or go to this webpage, photos.google.com/u/0/documents

The Documents section in Google Photos automatically arranges photos of documents in separate categories like Text Messaging, Menus, Notebooks, Book Covers etc. For example, any pictures of certificates, book pages or photos of news snippets from a printed newspaper will be automatically arranged under a ‘Document’ subcategory. This Google Photos on the web addition is a nice elevation which reflects how people take pictures of important documents, with the Gemini-powered Ask Photos in the future serving as another way to access this information conversationally.

Meanwhile, Google Wallet is also adding a feature that lets you save important documents as passes. Similarly, if Google Photos finds pictures of handwritten content, it will put them under categories like Handwriting. Photos of food recipes will be organised under the Recipes folder. Images taken of books will be put under the Book Cover category. In a similar fashion, there are plenty of subcategories featured in the Documents section of Google Photos.
