iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5

Release of  iOS 17.5, iPadOS 17.5 to developers : What’s new

Apple introduces iOS 17.5, iPadOS 17.5 betas with various updates for developers. Changes include EU app ecosystem modifications, new Apple Pencil model support, and enhanced features like mobile device management and group FaceTime call participant blocking. The official release notes for iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5 mention four new iPhone and iPad features, but we’ve managed to discover a few other changes.  This is the same changelog you’ll see in Software Update before installing the updates.

Apple has rolled out the beta versions of the upcoming iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5 updates to developers for testing purposes. The latest release candidate version arrived after the Cupertino-based tech giant seeded four other beta versions of the iOS and iPadOS 17.5 updates. The company will also append those changes to its support documents here and there, which highlight all the changes across all iOS 17 updates so far. This update introduces a new Pride Radiance wallpaper for the Lock Screen, Apple News enhancements and other features, bug fixes and security updates for your iPhone. iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5 likely include crucial security patches and fixes for undisclosed vulnerabilities. Apple will detail the security content of iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5 in this support document when the updates are released to the public.

Most of the features that Apple promised would be arriving with the ‌iOS 17‌ have already been released. However, the latest iOS 17.5 brings some additional app ecosystem changes that were required for iPhones and iPads to operate in the EU. With the latest beta versions, app developers can now offer iPhone and iPad users in the EU to download apps for their devices directly from their websites. Moreover, users in this region will also be able to download apps through other app marketplaces. The iOS and iPadOS 17.5 beta version also includes code changes about the new Apple Pencil models and a Battery Health feature for the iPad. This update will also add colour colour-changing widget for the Apple Podcasts widget, mobile device management, third-party item tracker alerts and the capability to block all participants in a group FaceTime calls.

Beta versions: How to download

Registered developers can opt-in for the latest beta versions by opening up the Settings app.

Go to the Software Update section, tap on the "Beta Updates" option, and toggle on the iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 Developer Beta.

An Apple ID associated with a developer account is also required to download and install the beta version. Apple has also released an RC version of iOS 16.7.8 for devices that are unable to run ‌iOS 17‌.

These aren’t the only changes and enhancements in iOS and iPadOS 17.5. We’ve managed to discover and detail quite a few new features and outward-facing modifications, including the following items:-

Support for downloading iPhone apps from developer websites for customers in the EU

iPad could get a Battery Health menu so you can finally track crucial stats such as the cycle count and remaining capacity

A repair prompt in Settings no longer shames those who repair their iPhone with aftermarket parts

Found Moving With You” tracking alerts for third-party trackers

Apple lets you customize this year’s Pride-themed wallpaper

Repair State allows your iPhone to be serviced without turning off Find My

This should be the final feature-rich update to iOS 17. Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference starts on June 10, where the company will preview the most significant changes coming to its software platforms with iOS 18 and other updates drop for all.
