Removal of Assistant settings on Android by Google app : What’s Changing
As per report available, in the top right corner of the profile menu and under settings, Google no more have the Google Assistant as one of the preferences. Ahead of this year’s mobile deprecation, the Google app is no longer providing a link to Assistant settings. Google keeps on updating its products and this time the tech giant came up with a significant shift in its Assistant settings. Google has started removing direct access to Assistant settings from the Google app. This change came for the Android devices, reflecting its broader strategy and transition from Google Assistant to its AI-powered Gemini. The update will uplift its Gemini platform. Recently, we’ve noticed that Google app (version 16.12+) > top-right corner profile menu > Settings, no longer lists “Google Assistant” as one of the preferences.
This long list lets you control: “Hey Google” sensitivity, Accessibility, Accounts, Assistant voice & sounds, Calendar, Communication, Continued Conversation, Digital assistants from Google, Face Match, General, Home control, Languages, Lock screen, Music, News, Nickname, Notes & Lists, Notifications, Offline speech recognition, Parental controls, Personal results, Photos, Podcasts, Quick phrases, Radio, Routines, Tasks, Transportation, Videos, Voice Match, Weather, Wellness, Your apps, Your data in the Assistant, Your people and Your places.
Here, we will see what’s changing and how you will now access Assistant Settings on Google App. The company is planning to phase out traditional Assistant features to increase the usage of its Gemini, its next-generation AI assistant. Previously, Android users could easily manage their Google Assistant preferences direct from the Google app. However, now they will be redirected to the Google’s Home app or system settings in order to make adjustments. These Assistant features were like routines, voice and default app within the Google app. Even if you’re all-in with Gemini on Android, Assistant settings might still be needed to control your smart home.
To access, go to the Google Home app > Settings > Home features > Google Assistant > Manage all Assistant settings.
If you’re still using the mobile Google Assistant, go to system Settings > Apps > General > Assistant. Some users are also missing “Gemini” in Google app settings. While the Google app does power Gemini, this preferences page should be dedicated to Google Search.
Google no more have the Google Assistant as one of the preferences. This was reported under Google App version 16.12. There’s a long list of features that you could use via Google Assistant. This move is company’s broader plan to phase out traditional Assistant features so that it can uplift its next-generation AI assistant, Gemini. Talking about the Gemini, it is launched as a more conversational and capable alternative and is being rolled out in phases across Android devices, starting from Pixel smartphones around the world.
