5 years of software support for the Camon 40 series as announced by Tecno
Tecno announced the Camon 40 series during this year's MWC in Barcelona earlier this month and the company has now confirmed its commitment to keep the series updated for longer. Tecno says that the next generation of its Camon-series mid-range Android smartphones will be kept up to date over the first five years following their release. The support is slated to cover the Camon 40, 40 Pro and 40 Pro 5G as well as the top-end Camon 40 Premier. Given that all phones launch with Android 15 out of the box, you can expect the last OTA update to be Android 18.
Tecno launched the successor to the 30 Premier alongside its 40-series siblings at MWC 2025. The series is a collection of 4 smartphones, most of which have a variation on a design previously seen in the Samsung Galaxy S21 (for the vanilla Camon 40, 40 Pro and Dimensity 7300-based 40 Pro 5G), with a more Xiaomi 15 Ultra look for the 40 Premier (powered by the newer Dimensity 8350 processor). It's somewhat expected for the Camon 40 Premier to get 3 major OS updates, but the rest of the devices from the series, the Camon 40 Pro, 40 Pro 5G and the vanilla Camon 40 are all expected to come with very low price points so getting three major Android updates is a nice bonus.
These upgrades apply to the CAMON 40, CAMON 40 Pro, CAMON 40 Pro 5G and CAMON 40 Premier. All those phones are currently running on Android 15 meaning they will receive major OS upgrades up to Android 18. After that, TECNO committed to provide it with 2 more years of updates (probably for security and other patches). The MediaTek Helio G100-powered 40 and 40 Pro have 120Hz AMOLED displays, while the 40 Pro 5G and 40 Premier upgrade to 144Hz refresh rates. However, for all the differences between the new Camon-series handsets (which include triple 50MP rear cameras exclusive to the 40 Premier flagship), they now all seem to have 1 thing in common: "5-year" software support.
In comparison, the previous CAMON 30 Series will only be upgraded to Android 16 with two major upgrades. We still don't have exact price tags nor exact availability details. But the Camon 40 Pro 5G review is shaping up to be an exciting device. To recap, the CAMON 40 features an IP66-rated body, 6.78-inch AMOLED 120Hz FHD+ screen, Helio G100 ultimate chip, 5,200mAh battery, USB-C 45W charging, 50MP OIS cam, 8MP ultra-wide, and 32MP selfie cam. Meanwhile, the CAMON 40 Pro is equipped with IP69 dust and water resistance, a 6.78-inch curved AMOLED 120Hz FHD+ screen, Helio G100 chip, 5,200mAh battery, USB-C 45W charging, 50MP OIS cam, 8MP ultra-wide and 50MP selfie cam. The CAMON 40 Pro 5G, on the other hand, was dubbed as the DxOMark's highest-rated photography phone in its class. It uses a 6.78-inch AMOLED 144Hz FHD+ screen, 2.5GHz 4nm Dimensity 7300 Ultimate chip, 5,200mAh battery, 45W charging, 60MO Sony LYT-700C OIS main cam, 8MP ultra-wide and 50MP selfie cam. The TECNO CAMON Premier 5G is the most powerful of the bunch boasting the sharper 6.67-inch AMOLED 144Hz 2.8K screen, Dimensity 8350 Ultimate chip, 5,100mAh battery with USB-C 70W Ultra Charge, 50MP + 50MP + 50MP 3x tele cameras and a 50MP AF selfie cam with 4K 60fps videos. All models have the One-Tap Button, FlashSnap and TECNO AI capabilities including Ella assistant.
The on-trend extension of OS and security patch updates includes a commitment to 3 major Android upgrades. Tecno asserts that the plan will ensure that its users will "always have the latest innovations at [their] fingertips without a hitch". After their MWC 2025 debut earlier this month, the phones are expected to be launched in the Philippines in the near future.
