Samsung Extended 7 Years of Software Updates for Galaxy Devices
Google and Samsung may be locked in a new arms race. While they’ve long competed in areas like phone specs and smart home platforms, the new race involves support, as each strives to prove their devices will still be viable for few years later. As of the launch of the Galaxy S24 lineup Samsung is promising seven years of Android upgrades, matching Google’s seven years of updates for its Pixel 8 phones. This baseline continued with the launch of the Pixel 9 series and the Galaxy S25 devices. Samsung is rated among the best smartphone manufacturers who are always consistent in delivering the software updates to its Galaxy devices. While the company is focusing on making a unified One UI platform for its entire ecosystem, its smartphones will shine with the support of seven years of software support. Samsung has promised at least three years of Android updates for all flagships from 2019 and later and extended that to four for various devices, including tablets, flagships, foldable phones, cheaper Galaxy A-series phones and Galaxy Watches. Samsung also says that all devices from 2019 or later will get at least four years of security updates. This includes every Galaxy line: Galaxy S, Note, Z, A, XCover and Tab, for a total of over 130 models. Meanwhile, some recent flagship devices like the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and others are scheduled to get five years of security updates. One budget phone offers six years of support, while the S24 series is due to get seven years.
Right after seeing a significant lead by Google, Samsung has also announced that its Galaxy devices will be promised to hold on to a huge seven years of Android OS updates & Security patches commitment, beginning from the Galaxy S24 lineup. Samsung has gradually made various changes in its device’s software update policy. It initially began with the Galaxy S21 series, which became the first lineup in the flagship range to feature four major OS updates and five years of security patches; meanwhile, this was gradually expanded to more eligible Galaxy phones within the mid-tier list. Samsung precisely stated that beginning from the flagships, the S24 lineup, all the newer and upcoming Galaxy devices will be promised to get seven huge major OS updates and seven years of security patches commitment. This will eventually lead to a safer and more secure experience, without having to worry or look up to the devices for about several upcoming years. Not only this, Samsung’s newly launched Galaxy A16 is perhaps promised to get six years of software updates, while this is currently the only phone in the A lineup to get such an exciting software update policy. Following is the list of all the Galaxy phones and tablets which have been promised to get seven major OS and seven years of security updates, including the newest Galaxy S25 series:-
