Launch of Samsung ‘tri-fold’ device

Samsung ‘tri-fold’ device launches alongside other foldable in 2025

While Samsung’s foldable outlook for 2025 is a bit murky, the company is reportedly giving it a strong shot with foldables in the works including its first “tri-fold” device. Samsung is planning to launch four new foldable devices in 2025, including a new “tri-fold” model. While the foldable phone market hasn’t grown as quickly as expected, Samsung is still moving forward with foldable, and the new devices could take things to the next level. Going into 2025, foldables are getting better than ever, but also running into a market that’s not growing as quickly as expected. Samsung isn’t giving up just yet, though, with apparent plans to launch not two, not three, but four foldable devices in 2025.

The first two foldable devices of the year 2025 will be the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7, which are updates to Samsung’s existing flagship foldable models. The reports available says that Samsung will put out Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 as expected, with the Fold 7 possibly removing the S Pen digitizer as rumoured, which could lead to an S Pen that requires charging. That was previously reported as an effort to make the Fold 7 thinner. The third device in the line up would be a Galaxy Z Flip FE, a lower-cost flip-style foldable that’s also been previously reported.

This year, we might see a big change in the Galaxy Z Fold 7 as it could remove the S Pen digitizer to make the device thinner. If this happens, the S Pen might need to be charged separately, which could be less convenient to use. However, it is just leaked and we need to wait for the official announcement. In addition to these two models, there will be a new, cheaper model, the Galaxy Z Flip FE. It is aimed at people who want a foldable phone but at a lower price with premium features.

Lastly, would be Samsung’s first “tri-fold” foldable. The most exciting foldable device of this year could be the Galaxy Z Tri-Fold. This device will have a larger display than the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The display would measure between 9.9-inches and 10-inches when fully opened, significantly larger than the 7.6-inch display on Galaxy Z Fold 6. The device is said to launch in Q3 2025, the same timeline that’s expected for Samsung’s other foldable. Samsung is planning a production volume of 200,000 units for the year, implying Samsung doesn’t expect the device to be very popular in terms of units shipped.  This new phone will have two hinges, meaning it can open up into a much bigger screen. That’s a huge upgrade compared to the 7.6-inch screen on the current Galaxy Z Fold.

There have been rumours of a “tri-fold” device from Samsung, but Huawei beat Samsung to the punch with the launch of Mate XT last year. Samsung plans to release the Galaxy Z Tri-Fold in the third quarter of 2025. The company doesn’t expect it to be a huge hit, with plans for just 200,000 units in production. Huawei launched its Tri-Fold phone, Mate XT in 2024. Still, Samsung’s version will be an exciting one in foldable phone technology. With these amazing four foldables, Samsung is aiming to keep its lead in the foldable phone market in 2025. Meanwhile, Samsung is gearing up for the Galaxy S25 launch, with reservations open with added discounts for buyers ahead of the event.
