Pixel 9 Pro XL specs leak

Pixel 9 Pro XL specs leak and AI features

Pixel 9 phones are everywhere these days except where they are supposed to be: under wraps. We’ve had almost daily leaks and the latest is fairly detailed list of specs. Google’s upcoming Pixel 9 series has already leaked in great detail, but the leaks just keep coming, this time with a reliable source offering a starting price for the Pixel 9 Pro XL as well as a list of specs and features. Just yesterday a leak in Google Search of all places, stemming from T-Mobile, revealed a few details about the price of the Pixel 9 Pro duo. The Pixel 9 Pro, the smaller device, was listed for $999 while the Pixel 9 Pro XL was listed at $1,199. But it was important to note that the price mentioned for the XL was attached to a 256GB model. As we’ve heard before, the 9-series will break from tradition and come out with the current Android 14 out of the box instead of introducing the next version. This is likely a side effect of pulling the launch forward (the Pixel 8 phones came out in November). The 9-series phones will receive 7 years of Feature Drops, just like the 8-series.

The sources goes on to reiterate the Pixel 9 Pro XL’s specs, including 128GB of storage, 16GB of RAM, Tensor G4, a 6.8-inch display which apparently can hit 3,000 nits (higher than past leaks have mentioned), Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and a tweaked camera setup with a 42MP selfie camera, 50MP main camera, and a pair of 48MP sensors for ultrawide and telephoto. The Pixel 9 Pro XL (as well as the vanilla Pixel 9 and the 9 Pro) will be powered by the Google Tensor G4 chipset paired with the Titan M2 security chip. The Pro XL will have 16GB of RAM and 128GB storage as base, storage options will go up to 1TB. The base price will be $1,100. The 256GB model will be $1,200, but it looks like pre-orders will have a free storage upgrade to 512GB.

The XL phone is named for its 6.8” display, an OLED panel with 1,344 x 2,992px resolution. The display will be protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Punch holed into it will be a 42MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 lens. On the rear, a 50MP wide camera with an f/1.68 lens will be joined by a 48MP 5x periscope (f/2.8) and a 48MP ultra wide (123°, f/1.7). Based on a previous leak, the main camera will be a Samsung GNK 1/1.31” sensor and it will have OIS. The ultra wide module will use the Sony IMX585 (1/2.51”). These two cameras will be featured on all three Pixel 9 models. Exclusive to the Pro and Pro XL will be the tele module using the same IMX858 sensor plus OIS. Google really seems to love this sensor, since it will use it (with an AF lens) for the selfie module too. Note that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will use a different camera setup.

It’s also mentioned that the Pixel 9 Pro XL will ship with Android 14, but get Android 15 soon, in line with previous rumours. There’s further mention of a 1TB storage variant for the XL, which would be the highest amount of storage Google has ever offered on a Pixel. There’s no word on the battery and charging, but earlier we know the detailed as capacity of 5,060mAh and 45W wired charging (wireless speed TBD). Naturally, the phone will feature Gemini AI-powered functions. The Pixel Studio will use AI to create images. Reimagine will transform an object in a photo into something else. There will be an AI-powered Weather app which will provide summaries and outfit tips, plus Screenshot Search, which will dig through your image gallery for a particular screenshot based on a natural language prompt.

Sources breaks down Google’s new AI features, some of which we’ve already heard about. They include “Pixel Studio,” an AI image generator and “Reimagine” which can “transform” objects in a photo into something new. The new Weather app is mentioned, this time with AI summaries which include “outfit tips.” And, finally, the “Pixel Screenshots” functionality which leaked previously is mentioned again, this time with the ability to “find screenshots using natural language search.” Google will officially unveil the Pixel 9 series, including the second-generation Fold, on 13 August, so we’re just a few short days away from the full reveal on all of this.
