iPhone 16 Pro Major Design Upgrade

iPhone 16 Pro Major Design Upgrade is expected from Apple

The iPhone 16 will probably have a lot in common with the iPhone 15 when it comes to design, according to reports and leaks. But when the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max arrived, there was one major difference between the two models apart from size and price, the camera with the telephoto lens. Currently, if you want the more powerful telephoto zoom, you need the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 Pro has a 3x zoom equivalent compared to the main lens. A new report says that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will return to the photographic uniformity of earlier models with a 5x zoom equivalent on both models.

Apple gave this explanation that it was basically a size, the smaller iPhone 15 Pro didn’t physically have the size for the bigger zoom. Since the next Pro models are reported to be slightly bigger (the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to match current sizes), there may be enough room for that 5x zoom. And it looks like Apple will take the opportunity to include it, according to a new reports available. This isn’t the first rumour about this, with a previous report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TFI Securities suggesting in October 2023 that the 16 Pro would have the tetraprism, Apple’s name for its periscope lens which is so skilfully designed that, unlike other periscope lenses, it looks near-identical to the other lenses. You can expect this only from Apple that it would go to this level of aesthetic detail. Two swallows don’t make a summer and two rumours don’t equate to fact, but they are certainly going in the right direction.

“Largan supplied periscope lenses for the premium iPhone 15 Pro Max launched last year. This year, more models in the upcoming iPhone line up will feature periscope lenses. GSEO is likely to join as a new supplier for this year’s iPhones,” the report claims. It would make a lot of sense for Apple to include the 5x zoom if it can. It’s a highly effective feature and many iPhone 15 Pro users would have wanted it, but left out due to the way the Max phone stretches your pocket (physically and financially). While the difference between the cameras on the Pro and Pro Max in the current generation isn’t the first time larger iPhones have had better cameras, making the two match in this regard is the better way to go and we believe Apple feels that way, too.

In addition to this, iPhone 16 is reportedly getting a dedicated button for shooting video, according to reports, although it's unclear if it would be available on all phones or just the Pro models. At the same time, Apple is expected to expand the Action button to all iPhone 16 models. Both buttons will be capacitive, according to leaks. The Action button, which can be used as a shortcut to launch the camera or turn on Do Not Disturb among other tasks, is currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. In addition to extending the Action button to the standard iPhone this year, it is also hoped that Apple expands what it can do.

Among the biggest rumoured changes is the addition of new buttons for both models. Otherwise, the Pro versions could get slightly larger screens, while the standard model may get a redesigned camera module. None of these reports have been confirmed or acknowledged by Apple, so we'll have to wait until September to know what's truly in store for the iPhone 16. The iPhone's design has largely remained the same over the last couple of years, aside from the iPhone 15 Pro's titanium build and the iPhone 15's colour-infused glass. It also removed the SIM card slot from new iPhones in the US, starting with the iPhone 14, meaning new iPhone buyers must rely on electronic SIMs. But arguably the biggest overhaul in recent memory came in 2020 when Apple changed the iPhone's shape by giving it flatter edges, starting with the iPhone 12.

Apple may switch up the camera arrangement on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. The cameras will reportedly be stacked vertically on both phones, similar to the iPhone 12. Reports claim to have obtained a dummy unit of the iPhone 16 and these "dummy" units aren't actual iPhones; they're models meant to help case manufacturers figure out the size and dimensions of new phones before they're released. It's unclear why Apple would change the positioning of the cameras on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus specifically. The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, on the other hand, are expected to keep the same camera bump design, as per the drawings of the phones' design. When Apple shifted from a vertical arrangement to a diagonal one starting with the iPhone 13, it said doing so made it possible to fit a larger module in the device. It's possible that it no longer needs to position the cameras in that way to fit the iPhone 16's sensor, but this is just speculation at this point.
