Expected Unique Features with iPhone 16

Unique Features upgrade expected with Apple iPhone 16 in near future

Apple is one of the leading company and always introduces a feature you’ve never thought of but as soon as it’s here, you think, of course, that’s brilliant. It’s a good description of what’s coming in the near future for both iPhone 16, earlier iPhones and Apple TV. It’s a subtle update to the mute button. And this news comes in a shape of leak which says that the Apple TV range is changing in other ways too. This is a significant and fairly positive change for all users. Sources has identified code “discovered on Apple’s backend” which says that Apple is working on a new home accessory to sit alongside the HomePod and Apple TV.

The report says, “The code references a device with the identifier ‘HomeAccessory17,1,’ which is a new identifier category. The name is similar to the ‌HomePod‌'s ‘AudioAccessory’ identifier.”  The identifier is especially intriguing because it suggests by mentioning 17,1 and it may include the same processor that is expected in the Apple iPhone 16, the A18 chip. Which means the new device will be capable of advanced features, perhaps relating to AI. The attracting news is the suggestion that a new device is going to be so powerful it needs the A18 chip in it, whatever it turns out to be. May it be the rumoured hybrid of Apple TV with display. This would be innovative. More than this, the code refers to two models which haven’t been released and are Apple TV devices. This fuels earlier rumours that a new Apple TV (or two) could be released by the end of this year or may be in September when the iPhone 16 series is expected to debut.

In addition to this, iPhone 16 is also due for some big upgrades if the latest rumours are to be believed. According to reports available, Apple is planning on putting the latest and greatest A18 chip in both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models, which would close the performance gap that’s typically existed between devices in the line up. For reference, the iPhone 15 line up had different chips based on the model you bought. If you purchased the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, you got the A17 Pro, Apple’s top-tier chip at the time. If you picked up the iPhone 15 or 15 Plus, you got the A16. Sources also claim that Apple has enhanced its chip order from TSMC, its main supplier. The company is anticipating selling between 90 million and 100 million units of the iPhone 16, a step up from the 80 million to 90 million iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro units it sold last year. If true, this would be a significant departure from what Apple has done in previous generations.

Apple has a history of intriguing innovations on Apple TV. Years ago, it improved video playback in a way no other company has done before. If you miss what someone on TV said, you could pick up your Siri remote and say, “What did he/she/they say?” Whichever pronoun you use, the result would be the same. The video would rewind by 10 seconds, then play the bit you didn’t hear again, with subtitles front-and-centre, and just for those few seconds. If you haven’t tried it, it’s really attractive. Now, with the next-gen software for iPhone and Apple TV, iOS 18 and tvOS 18 respectively, there’ll be another key innovation. It will work on the upcoming iPhone 16 series, but also iPhones all the way back to the iPhone XS, once the software is installed. The software is currently in its second developer beta. It will come to public beta later this month and reach general release in september.

Additional evidence suggests that Apple is moving in this direction, which has looked at iOS code that lists model numbers for the iPhone 16 series. Interestingly, each model has numbers ranging from 17,1 to 17,5. Typically, the number denotes the chip the phone uses, so 17 means that the entire line up will get chips from the same family. If you’ve been following recent developments, the logic behind this is pretty clear. Every iPhone 16 model with the A18 would allow Apple to bring Apple Intelligence features to its entire line up. Currently, only the iPhone 15 Pro with the A17 Pro processor can fully take advantage of Apple Intelligence.

As for other specs, we’ve gotten a fairly substantial set of leaks and rumours about what’s coming, but one of the most recent ones is a new OLED display for the base iPhone 16 models using an “M14 AMOLED stack.” Again, if true, this suggests more convergence between the different models of the iPhone 16. With the phones expected to launch during Apple’s iPhone event in September. As per Evidence available, it doesn’t mean that Apple’s two-tier system is breaking down entirely. The new A18 processor is expected to be a retooled A17 Pro with a new N3E process, while the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will get a new A18 Pro chip that’s 15% to 20% bigger than the A18, letting it boast more “graphics and AI computing units.”

It may also be possible that Apple might disable some features of the A18 so that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are slightly weaker than the Pro models. It could also use lower-binned chips for the phone, so there may still be a significant performance difference. Apple’s change is brilliant: when you mute video playback, either on the iPhone or by pressing the mute button on the Apple TV remote, as the silence descends, subtitles automatically appear onscreen. Tap the button again and as the sound fades in, the subtitles fade out. Surely interesting for all.
