London to New York in less than 5 hours

London to New York in less than 5 hours with Supersonic wingless ultra-luxury plane

Sky OV is a wingless jet concept designed by Oscar Viñals, the same person behind the nuclear-powered concept which could potentially fly from London to New York in 80 minutes. The lavish plane will include suites, living rooms, flat screen TVs and even your own personal chef.  A supersonic plane can carry 300 passengers in ultra-lux flights promises to bring science fiction to life. The spaceship-like aircraft could fly from London to New York at incredible speed in less than five hours - with "no wings".

Sky OV is a wingless jet concept that could fly supersonic. The wingless design makes it 50 % more efficient than ‘traditional’ aircraft. It would accommodate up to 200 passengers. This is a supersonic plane concept that could potentially fly from New York to London in less than five hours. Designer Oscar Viñals from Barcelona, Spain, said that Sky OV Evo will include ultra luxurious amenities, including bedrooms, suites, bathrooms, and even an in-flight chef. He said: "There will be private rooms for two travellers with a bedroom, living room and an en suite shower room. "In the living room, you'll find a leather double seat sofa complete with dining tables, a 32-inch flat screen TV, noise-cancelling headsets, a comfortable double bed, a full-height shower, vanity unit, bathrobes and an in-flight chef at your service." Simply dubbed Sky OV, it could be faster than the average airliner, and a lot more efficient. The key to all of that is its unique wingless design.

Other passengers will have individual spacious cabins complete with window blinds and a sliding door. The aircraft would be able to reach a top speed of Mach 1.5 – around 1,150mph - thanks to its special engines. He added that this plane's fuselage is more stylised than its predecessor - the Sky OV. It uses bladeless turbojet engines, which are more efficient than current turbojet engines and faster. The jet would use hydrogen fuel technology, meaning it would use electric units powered by hydrogen fuel cells, and the electric units would in turn propel the jets.

The aircraft's body is blended in with its wings, giving a look and feel of a spaceship straight out of Star Wars. The sleek design aims to reduce drag and fuel consumption, enabling its mix of silent engines to reach super speeds at no extra cost to the environment. Oscar said: "My other models were thought and designed for different purposes. This one in particular is the evolution of its predecessor the Sky OV. It was quite challenging because I specifically designed it to be the as eco-friendly as possible but at the same time have a high performance in all flight points and conditions." Even though most aircraft look the same, basically a fuselage with wings attached to it, different designs have always existed. Lockheed Martin, for example, once unveiled a prototype for a jet with a circular wing. The Sky OV uses a blended-wing design which, because of the unusual way the wings are ‘glued’ to the fuselage, makes it look like it has no wings at all.

A design rendering shows how passengers would sit across 12 long rows of up to 33 people each. Explaining where he got the aerodynamic look from, Oscar said: "The main inspiration were the birds when they fly in 'gliding flight mode', reducing their power and energy to the minimum without losing a good performance. " The plane designer said his brain is constantly firing up new ideas, including a flying saucer-inspired aircraft which he aims to finish soon. The last section of the wings, the only part that’s not physically attached to the body, is very small and can fold parallel to the ailerons. According to Viñals, this system would make the wingless jet 50 % more fuel efficient than a ‘regular’ aircraft, also due to the fact it would make it 30% lighter.

The cruise speed would be 1,235 km/h, or Mach 1, with a top speed of of 1,470 km/h (913 mph), or Mach 1.2. Sky OV would be 45.5 meters long, with a wingspan of 66.8 meters, and it would have a capacity for 200 passengers. Unfortunately, this is just a concept, and it doesn’t look like the aviation industry is ready to shift away from the ‘traditional’ aircraft design right now. The Sky OV evo is one of Oscar's latest designs since he came up with a super-jet that would surpass the speed and size of the legendary Concorde.
