Leaked Images suggest bigger display for iPhone 16 Pro Max
If there's one thing that can sour people on a perfectly good phone, it's a device's unwieldiness. After four years, Apple is reportedly ready to increase the display size on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max and we aren't sure how people feel about that. According to the latest rumours and leaked images, Apple will increase the screen size of both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max to 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively. We’ve already seen some dummy units of the new iPhones, but now we can get a better idea of how much bigger the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be based on these images of a dummy unit side by side with an iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Generally, dummy units usually have the actual dimensions of the product so that accessory manufacturers can create products compatible with the device ahead of it's launch. Images shared compare a real iPhone 15 Pro Max next to a dummy unit of the new 16 Pro Max. After all, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max are already quite large at 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, respectively, and the rumoured increase to 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches may make this year's Pro models a little too big for most people's liking. But, of course, things may not turn out to be the way as they seems. Apple could make the screens bigger without making the phones themselves unmanageable and photos of the iPhone 16 Pro Max shared do indicate that to be the case.
iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen, which means that the next generation will have a screen just 0.2 inches larger. Leaked iPhone 16 Pro Max images suggest bigger display might not be the only worrisome change. In the images posted by the tipster, we see an iPhone 16 Pro Max dummy alongside an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Based on the images, the iPhone 16 Pro Max won’t actually be that much bigger than the current Pro Max model. By placing the two models side by side, you can indeed see the difference between the two, but it’s nothing incredibly significant. It’s hard to imagine that these 0.2 inches will give users much more screen area to display more interface elements.
Of course, fans of larger phones will certainly be happy to have a slightly bigger screen, while those who think the current size is already big enough may not be happy with another increase in size. The upcoming model surely looks larger than the iPhone 15 Pro Max but not so much so that you'd have to worry about how you'd handle it. And yes, an increase in screen size is rumoured to make the Pro models a little wider, thicker and taller, but the Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology for thinner bezels will likely ensure there isn't a significant increase in the overall size of the phone.
Leaked iPhone 16 Pro Max images suggest bigger display might not be the only worrisome change. In addition to larger screens, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are rumoured to come with other hardware upgrades. This includes larger batteries, faster Wi-Fi and 5G, a new A18 Pro chip based on the M4, a Capture button, a new 48 MP ultra-wide camera and 5x telephoto lens on the smaller iPhone 16 Pro.
The leaked images also imply that the phone's cameras are larger compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The main unit is expected to feature a 1/1.14 inches sensor, which would allow it to capture more light than the current 1/1.28-inch sensor and help the iPhone 16 Pro Max become one of the best camera phones of 2024. The huge module could impact how the phone will feel in your hands though. Lastly, the Capture button aimed at photographers can also be seen in the photos. Overall, the iPhone 16 Pro Max seemingly looks largely the same as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but it remains to be seen if the larger size and bigger camera module would make it unmanageable to it's users. The new phones are expected to be announced by Apple later this year.
