Samsung Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 go on sale early

Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 Prices ahead of Official Launch

Sometimes we let excitement get the better of us – and someone over at German retailer Otto must have been quite excited about the launch of the Galaxy A55 and A35 since the online store is already selling both phones. They weren’t supposed to go official until 11 March 2024. Actual date for the launch, but it’s the only launch date that Samsung has announced. Although Samsung has confirmed that it is unveiling the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 on 11 March 2024, it doesn't stop some leaks from appearing. Ahead of the set event, a retailer surprisingly listed the two mid-range Galaxy smartphones along with their key specifications.

German retailer Otto might not have received the memo about the launch, as it has listed the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 on its official online store full of the devices' details. The base Galaxy A55 costs €479 (~$524) and comes loaded with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB expandable storage while the 256 GB option is priced at €529 (~$579). Regarding Samsung's other mid-range model, the Galaxy A35 costs €379 (~$415) with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB on-board storage. It also gets expandable storage with up to 1 TB more via a micro SD card. Meanwhile, the model with a generous 8/256 GB configuration retails for €449 (~$491). The Samsung Galaxy A55 starts at €480 for the base 128GB model, the 256GB version costs €50 more. You can add extra storage for less money (it will be slower, though, and €50 is a decent price to double the storage).

The Samsung Galaxy A35 comes in two versions as well – 6/128GB for €380 and 8/256GB for €450. And €70 more to double the storage, but the upgrade includes 2 extra gigs of RAM. There is the microSD slot too. Samsung Galaxy A35 available colours are Ice Blue, Lilac, Navy Blue and Lemon. The Galaxy A35 also has a 120Hz 6.6” FHD+ AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass Victus. The phone is powered by the Exynos old 1380. The camera is similar with a 50+8+5MP configuration (a smaller 1/1.96” sensor in the main) and a 13MP selfie.

The Galaxy A55 has a 6.6” display, not 6.5” as rumoured, but that might be a mistake. It’s a 120Hz FHD+ AMOLED display (19.5:9) with Gorilla Glass Victus. The A55 is powered by the new Exynos 1480 chipset. The rear holds a 50MP main (1/1.56”), 12MP ultra wide (1/2.74”), 5MP macro camera and 32MP selfie. Samsung Galaxy A55 available colours are Ice Blue, Lilac, Navy Blue and Lemon. Samsung's Galaxy A55 gets a new speaker grill cut out and bulging section for the buttons.

Galaxy A35             €379 (~$415)                   -                      €449 (~$491)

As it stands, the Galaxy A55 will be slightly more expensive than the Galaxy A54. The same goes for the Galaxy A35, which substantially costs more than the Galaxy A34 (review). Pricing for other regions including the USA may still vary, and will most likely remain unchanged from their respective predecessors.

What's new in the Samsung Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35?

The new price structure looks justified with the Galaxy A55 gaining a more powerful and capable Exynos 1480 SoC alongside AMD's newly-designed GPU and higher RAM count. It should sport an aluminium frame as well. If the rumours are true, it gets a tougher Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection and a far brighter OLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution. Its cameras comprise a 50 MP main, 12 MP ultra-wide, and 5 MP macro, in addition to a 32 MP selfie snapper in front.

The Galaxy A35 does appear to deliver beefier upgrades from the Galaxy A34. Primarily, the 6.6-inch OLED with a 120 Hz refresh rate remains unchanged, but internally, it is equipped with an Exynos 1380 SoC which is the same chipset that powers the Galaxy Tab S9 FE. In the imaging department, it has a 50 MP main shooter with a smaller sensor size than the Galaxy A55. This is paired with an 8 MP ultra-wide, 5 MP macro sensor, and a 16 MP front-facing camera.

Furthermore, the two mid-range models will feature a 5,000 mAh battery and a 25-watt charging speed. Plus, they have IP67 dust and water resistance. Both will boot up on Android 14 with the One UI 5.1 skin. Both phones are launching with Android 14, One UI 6.1 and Knox 3.1. They have aluminium bodies with IP67 dust and water resistance rating. These are dual-SIM phones with a hybrid SIM tray and eSIM. Like their predecessors, these phones have USB-C ports wired for v2.0 speeds. There’s also Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and Bluetooth 5.3 (aptX, LDAC and SSC).
