Reports reveal iOS 18 will be compatible with 24 iPhone models
Will iOS 18 be compatible with your iPhone? With this software update announcement expected for WWDC 2024, one of the most common questions iPhone users have is whether the next iOS will be compatible with their current devices. While iOS 17 removed support for iPhone 8 and iPhone X devices, it seems all existing iPhone models supported by iOS 17 will be supported by iOS 18. iOS 18 will be compatible with the iPhone XR, and thereby also the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max models with the same A12 Bionic chip, according to a report from a private account with a proven track record of sharing build numbers for upcoming iOS updates.
The leak was shared by an X user who keeps their account private. They usually share build numbers for upcoming iOS updates. However, this was likely because the account prefers to keep a low profile, and many of its previously-deleted posts contained accurate information. According to the reports, iOS 18 would be compatible with the same iPhone models as iOS 17. Interestingly, with many AI features rumoured to be announced for this upcoming operating system, it’s nice that Apple might keep supporting all iPhone models available today. Following is the list of compatible iPhone models:-

Apple is expected to announce iOS 18 at its annual developers conference WWDC in June, and the update should be released to all users with a compatible iPhone in September. So far, the update is rumoured to include new generative AI functionality for Siri and more, RCS support in the Messages app and design changes.
The same source expects iPadOS 18 to drop support for iPad models with the A10X Fusion chip. Interestingly, iPadOS 18 seems that it won’t support iPad 6, iPad 7, or the second-generation iPad Pro. If that’s the case, Apple might plan a few extra features for the iPad operating system. Since several features are already exclusive to iPads with Apple Silicon processors, this might hint at more functions coming to these iPads, especially with the OLED iPad Pro release expected in the near future.
