Samsung Galaxy S24

Galaxy S24 expected to enhance Samsung’s new LLW DRAM technology for AI

Samsung Semiconductor revealed “a special type of DRAM” which the company claims is perfect for mobile AI (artificial intelligence) and gaming applications. It's called LLW DRAM, which is short for Low Latency Wide IO. Samsung initially announced that it was developing LLW DRAM at the start of this year at Tech Day. The company also informed briefly about LLW at Memory Tech Day, where it introduced HBM3E Shinebolt and LPDDR5X CAMM2 solutions. Now Samsung reminded everyone of its LLW chip through a video. Samsung Semiconductor took to X (formerly Twitter) to publish a 44-second ad showcasing LLW DRAM.

The LLW solution usually sits right next to the CPU on a SoC, which makes sense given its “Low Latency” claims. But interestingly, LLW chips will work alongside the CPU rather than replacing traditional DRAM altogether. Exactly when LLW DRAM will be used by Samsung chipsets is unclear, but it is possible that the Galaxy S24 series will be the first smartphone to use this technology.

Samsung is already preparing new AI features for the next flagship, including AI Live Translate Call, which the company confirmed will be coming early next year. Samsung will supposedly showcase the S24 as an “AI phone.” All things considered, perhaps the Galaxy S24 will also be used as a launch pad for LLW DRAM. Samsung is expected to unveil the next flagship phone in San Jose on January 17. There are claims that Galaxy S24 won’t have 12GB RAM, while Ultra lacks 16GB RAM

Now Samsung is less than two months away from announcing its next-generation flagship smartphone. Several features of the upcoming devices have leaked over the past few months. Samsung will finally upgrade RAM on its high-end devices, but a new leak shoots down those claims. According to reports available, the base Galaxy S24 will come equipped with just 8GB RAM, with no option to upgrade memory with pricier variants. The Galaxy S24+, though, will have a variant with 12GB RAM, but its entry-level version will still use 8GB RAM.
